Today, after an extensive reconstruction project, the "Cheney Mansion" stands proudly in it's original state. The new drive and the walk to the Schoolhouse Court is completed. The Historical Society property is now the "Jewel" of the City and County.

Not long after the Society received the Cheney Mansion we sold the "Gledhill property" and used those funds to help pay for the construction of our new Museum. There are many interesting artifacts kept here including a Military room and methods of transportation. Be sure and visit the museum, you'll be glad you did.
Recently Les Flautt supplied the funding to ad and addition to the museum. In the new addition you will find and assortment of interesting items to include Model T Fords, clocks, Indian relics, a large Mammoth bone (that was found in a creek bed near Otterville).
You now have the opportunity to see what it was like to attend a country school in days gone by. The Lone Star, one room school that was stationed on the Schudel Family property was transported to the Historical Society property a few years ago and now stands proudly complete with desks and the original bell that rang to call the children to school.
Don't you wonder how the Adams Family of four could survive in the one-room log house. When you step inside, you will be amazed. Be sure and read Tina's story located on another page of this web site.
